I really like the idea of having a sort of diary on the HRV4Training app that not only includes personal notes and scores, but also my daily physiological data (HRV) combined with my training data. Thanks to HRV4Training I'm able to make informed decisions on how to manage my training load, intensity and recovery, understand whether I'm ready to absorb the training that I want to do, and even predict states of fatigue, sickness or great fitness." |

"Individual optimization is my passion both at work and on the bike, and I am always interested in how internal and external stressors affect each other. I use HRV4Training as a monitoring tool to ensure that I am not overreaching and that I am getting enough recovery. Because I am still relatively new to the sport, but have ramped up my training very quickly, I am still learning what that means for me. Particularly with respect to nutrition, if I don't fuel well enough, my HRV drops and that helps signal me to focus more on my food" |

I want to optimize my training and recovery while keeping a balance with my professional career, my family and friends. It is sometimes a challenge but I learnt how to organize myself to benefit from the best of every aspect of my life. I mainly use HRV4Training to monitor my recovery and fatigue from training and life stressors in general. It helps my to adapt the current day's training : do I keep it as I planned or do I make it easier if my HRV is too low? I can also track trends to see if there is long term fatigue and then I can plan recovery weeks. I combine HRV with my feel and I think this approach is working well" |

I love that the app is really simple to use and doesn't require me to wear a device 24/7." |

|
Ultramarathoner, triathlete and Long Covid advocate she never wanted to be.
"I used to train 6-8x a week, in addition to working full time, finishing my PhD and doing exciting creative projects on the side, until mild acute Covid infection changed it all. I am not giving up, but planning better, and HRV4Training is a very helpful tool in this mission. Even though I cannot make it out of bed some days, I am not giving up - I can finish marathon distance trail run or Olympic distance triathlon on the other days. HRV4Training helps me determine which are which. I have been doing endurance sports for 33 years, I am not giving up. It was absolutely amazing tool to estimate my capacity for the day and plan my activities accordingly, because with POTS/Long Covid I don’t have the luxury of overdoing it, because I will pay dearly in sympathetic overactivity during sleep, unrefreshing sleep and immense fatigue" |
Stefano is a Trailrunner for the Team Vibram since 2013, who finished 7° overall at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) in 2018, and a winner of many trail races. Samantha is a mom of two young boys and expat family currently living in Dubai. A triathlete, mountain biker and neuro Pilates instructor as well as Sports Nutritionist.
"I recently started learning more about the neuroscience of movement and feel it ties in so well with HRV. I have an informal diagnosis of hEDS and have been navigating training within my own limitations as my fatigue and other symptoms have become more regular/overwhelming, especially with higher loads (all reflected in my HRV). Have had a few run ins with REDs and a major MTB crash and have used HRV to monitor progress coming back within my own limits as well as managing training with hEDS. Have also used it to monitor stress levels during our most recent move which ended up taking over 8 months with our family split between two countries. Have learned to look at overall long term trend rather than isolated days, and how best to use each and most of all the importance of prioritising recovery" |
Former Ultraman world champion, endurance coach for ultra-runners and triathletes and advisor to growth and scale-up companies in EU and LATAM "I have been using HRV4Training since 2014-2015 as part of my program, and with all of my athletes I coach or people-organizations I advise on the business or wellness." |
Marjaana is a tired mom of three kids who did not run, not even 15 mins. She was deep into sleep deprivation, depressed, suicidal. Mentally and physically exhausted. One day on a hike, running saved her life and she swore that as a coach, she would help other women into fit motherhood through the joy of movement. Marjaana hopes to inspire other tired moms as she tackles obstacles life throws at her way, while whole-heartedly doing what she loves to do: long-distance triathlon, running and cross-country skiing races.
Marjaana has used HRV4Training to guide her training since 2017. But she did not always take the advice into consideration. In fact, there was a period of time when she kept ignoring the declining HRV and raising HR, screaming to take a rest. In stead she kept pushing the envelope, ultimately leading to overtraining syndrome and dysfunctional HPA axis with a whole host of health issues. Lessons learned, she is still using HRV4Training to guide her decisions in training - and this time listening to the advice |

"I take the HRV4Training readings into account when deciding whether to do a planned key session. If the reading is below the normal range, I often either move the key session, or decrease the intensity. I also want to ensure that the readings are not too low over a longer period of time, which will cause me to reassess my training block, and sometimes lifestyle choices. One of the main things I have learnt is the stress that long-haul flights have on my body. This past year, I have done four trips that take longer than 20+ hours of total traveling. My readings were suppressed for days after these trips, and I also felt exhausted. Now, I aim to take long trips further out from key competitions whenever possible. I did this before my last competition, doing a two-week holding camp in Europe before the competition. This worked wonderfully as I was better rested and felt more prepared for the competition." |

Jay is a competitive 64 yr old masters distance runner, placing in the top 10 nationally (USA) in distances ranging from 5k to half marathon.
"I've never been a gifted runner but I've always been willing to work hard for my goals. As I've gotten older I've embraced key performance and health metrics to help me train smarter as well as harder in order to raise my game and avoid injury. HRV4Training provides crucial trending information for me, enabling me to increase my training volume by monitoring my recovery. I have really been able to step up my training this past year and replace rest days with recovery runs, as the trending from my morning measurements gives me guidance specific to athletes which I can trust." |

"I qualified for the Ironman WC in a sub-10 time and raced at the XTERRA World Championships, placing 9th AG and qualifying to race as an elite athlete next year. Every morning I take my HRV measurement (without fail) using HRV4Training - I have some funny photos of me taking it on the side of a cliff. It often picks up that my body is tired before I can consciously feel it, so it’s so useful for deciding how hard I’m going to train and whether I should just take time off" |
Jenny is a 24 year old med student from Switzerland and passionate triathlete.

I find it matches my subjective feelings 95% of most mornings and helps validates what I am experiencing." |

Beata is a mum of 2 little boys, and uses running for mental health and to push her boundaries. She is a keen runner who enjoys all distances from 5km to marathon races.
"I picked up sport in my mid 20s and am fitter and faster now that I'm in my 40s. I love showing other people what is possible with hard work and just because you get older doesn't mean you need to go slower. I also love learning about how to train smarter and get the most out of my body. HRV4Training has helped in different ways. Just because I feel ok doesn't mean the body is rested or ready for hard training. I would normally force myself to train hard even though I'm tried but now I respect how I'm feeling." |
David is a trail/ultra-trail runner currently sponsored by CTS willing to achieve great results in 2025 World Cup and in future 2024 competitions. I've used HRV4Training every day from season to season. I've learnt that I sometimes get tired and HRV usually correlates well. "I use HRV4Training every morning with my phone to back up my feelings, and (I try) not to dictate what I should do! I try to pay attention to it as I used to have RED-S/eating disorders in the past as a road cyclist. The benefit of HRV4Training, for me, is the journal compared to a tool such as a Garmin watch. You can link better what you did with how you feel" |

We go as planned when the data looks good, and discuss potential causes of stress when the data is not good" |
I'm a former CTO of TrainingPeaks, and 12 years ago I realized recovery was more important than a plan. I'm now 43, racing Xterra for the last 3 years. Ironman before that, but I took many years off due to back injury. I got 2nd in Xterra Nationals this year and plan to compete in Italy next year for World's, my 3rd trip. It's been a long journey back to competition from injury and Xterra has much different demands than Ironman.
"I use HRV4Training everyday. I've learned about seasonality of HRV, that HRV is important for understanding how I'm adapting and not necessarily how I will perform, and that unstable HRV isn't great even if it's high." |
Pietro is a Physical Education teacher, graduated in Sport Science, an S&C coach in an amateur soccer team, a former cyclist (although he still indulges in the occasional bike ride) and currently a mountain, long distance and cross-country runner. Sometimes he likes swimming, climbing, and practicing yoga and calisthenics. Passionate about performance and movement.
"I use HRV4Training every morning, as soon as I wake up. Training every day, several times a day, and living a rather hectic life, I need to monitor accumulated fatigue and stress levels, to decide how to modulate workloads together with my track and field coach. The values have also been found, several times, to be predictive of the onset of illnesses such as flu and COVID, already putting me on the alert for common seasonal or allergy-related colds." |
Milena is a hypermobile aerialist, yoga teacher, martial artist and personal trainer, who longs to help others stay injury resistant and strong. "Since hearing about HRV4Training through a bendy bodies podcast I have been using it (almost!) daily and it has helped me learn my patterns of rest and stress, and it has helped me injure myself way less!" |
Spencer is a marathon runner, and occasional cyclist. Passionate about all things endurance sports, he is perennially looking for new challenges and ways to optimize his performance.
"I use HRV4Training for daily morning measurements. HRV4Training is both an active and passive tool for me. It is non-negotiable in my daily routine. I use the app to validate acute conditions I experience, whether the early onset of illness, or environmental conditions like elevation. The daily readings validate what I am experiencing and serve as a metric to inform my next move for recovery and training." "Over the long term it has been a great tool for understanding how my lifestyle choices impact my health. One novel insight during my usage of HRV4Training was a period of reduced HRV while I was briefly injured from running. It seems both the physiological, and mental benefits I derive from running can somewhat explain this period. While I now know more training is not always "more", finding a consistent lifestyle and training schedule to benefit my health and participate in the activities I love has been my key/ongoing learning" |
I am a cycling coach passionate about sport and research. I love physiology, data and its application in sports. I like to experiment on myself to apply on my athletes. I am a teacher for the FCI and Performance coach for the FCI Piemonte (road, track, MTB).

Raju is an orthopedic surgeon specialising in sports surgeries. He is a fitness enthusiast though he started late in his life (40’s). He has a private practice in New Delhi, India & also has teaching roles for post graduate orthopedic trainees.
"I use HRV4Training to measure my HRV & monitor my resting heart rate. I use it as a guide to dictate my training intensity. I get patients from both extremes of the exercise spectrum, under exercisers to over exercisers. I am able to identify patterns of overexercise & act upon it in my own exercise schedule. Also the lifestyle tags of sleep & alcohol have helped me greatly in maximising the former and nearly eliminating the latter from my life. I like the simplicity of the app. I used to own a wearable that I no longer wear because they suddenly shifted to a subscription based model. HRV4Training allows me to do much the same measurements at a fraction of that cost & no additional gear. As a clinician who deals with Indian athletes, most of whom are very poor, I feel this app gives them a low cost alternative to manage their health metrics (which are presently ignored)." |
Matteo is a mountain running athlete and a endurance coach.
"Since I was a kid I've always been passionate about endurance sports (xc-skiing, cycling, mountain bike, track and field...), this passion has been transformed in my job with a Bachelor's degree in exercise science at the University of Turin. My main goal is to developed new training methods based on data that help athletes to reach their goals without occurs in overtraining or injuries." "I've been using HRV4Training every morning to adjust my training program of the day. I learned how my body reacts to different training stimulus, altitude, sleep quality and duration, food, stress, travels... the most interesting facts that I've noticed as an athlete and coach (and the one I want to investigate) is that low HRV followed by poor feel or fatigue is related with changes in heart rate during exercise, blood lactate during/after exercise." |
Tasmin is a sport and remedial massage therapist from Aberdeen, Scotland and is currently studying for a degree in Applied Science.
I have trained and competed in triathlon since 2017 up to 70.3 distance and am undertaking my first full distance event in Wales next June. I am a level 2 triathlon coach with my local club Fleet Feet Triathletes. I live with my husband, who is also a triathlete, our 13 year old daughter and 2 year old labrador who likes to join us on training runs and offroad rides. I take a reading with HRV4Training each morning which let's me know whether my body is going to be receptive to the session i have planned. I can then adjust if necessary. Its been really interesting to see how different things affect my HRV, especially alcohol and illness. I have a better understanding of hoe long it will take me to recover from certain types of workout. |
Adam is an endurance athlete coach with CTS.
"I’ve been coaching cyclists, mountain bikers, & triathletes for over 18 years. I work with elite athletes, as well as amateur and run a weekly podcast focused on getting accurate training advice to time crunched athletes." "I use HRV4Training to gather more datapoints relative to subjective feedback from myself and my athletes on recovery status. I then use these objective & subjective feedback data to guide training on the individual level." |
Mat is a high school science teacher from Berkeley, California in the United States that is currently living out his dream as a trail running coach in the French Alps, just down-valley from Chamonix.
"I dig deep into science and research based training, and the HRV4Training app and philosophy have become integral to my own training and coaching others. My HRV has been instrumental in measuring my recovery from the 300+km Petite Trotte à Léon (PTL) and getting back into running again. I've learned a ton using HRV4Training. As a coach, my general philosophy is that (un-coached) runners often overtrain and drive themselves into the ground. HRV4Training has helped me underline to my athletes that there is a lot more to training than just the kilometers they are running. How are you sleeping? How are you eating? What's up with your life stress? In my experience, it's been a great way for them to know when to dial back on a hard day... and actually give them a reason for it. One of the main places it's been useful with athletes is helping them actually rest after big events like 100k's, 100 milers, and multiday events. I start by giving them at least a full week off, and then monitor their HRV with them as they get back into light running to make sure they're not over-doing it. When we begin to see an upward trend again and lots of green days stacking on each other we begin to think about harder efforts and intervals again if they are feeling ready." |
Hanem is a physiotherapist and performance nutrition coach "Olympic weightlifting is my passion, but i take a break every year for 2 months to train and participate in a different sport event, such as long runs I use HRV4Training every morning upon waking to track my HRV. I learned to adjust my training if needed and if I was under recovered, which helped with my performance." |
André holds a Ph.D. in Sports Science, Professor/researcher and High-Performance Canoeing Coach. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in securing 7 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze medals in international competitions.
"I use HRV4Training every day to assess my HRV patterns, monitor fatigue from my workouts, and adapt to training and lifestyle stressors. As a Researcher, Coach, and Professor, HRV4Training provides me advanced data analytics on the relation between physiological parameters, training, and performance, to understand how different stressors affect my body, so that adjustments aimed at optimizing both health and performance." |
"I’ve been racing since I was 12 and in the beginning didn’t have much structure and just “ran like a deer,” according to my XC coach. Decades later, I’m still competing (now in triathlon) and I’m still learning new things about myself and my performance. I have seven national multisport titles and a multitude of podiums. I embrace technology and science to guide my training and as an early adopter of the power meter, have nearly 20 years of power data. I love the simplicity and accuracy of this HRV platform and it tells me important things about myself and my training.
I use HRV4Training to guide my training, lifestyle habits, and recovery. It has changed the way I think about the integration of my life and my training. They are inextricably intertwined in important ways that HRV4Training makes me see and understand. Want to drink wine for dinner with friends? Ok, but that’s going to leave a mark and HRV4Training will show you exactly what that mark looks like." |
Federico has a degree in high performance sports and a Master's degree in health and sports sciences. He has been training athletes for more than two decades and training coaches for more than a decade. He is from Argentina and lives in Mendoza. "I have used HRV4Training since its inception as part of the monitoring of my athletes and, in addition, I use it as a tool in the presentations of the classes that I teach for the students of the Master's degree in health and sports sciences at the Finis Terrae University in Santiago, Chile." |
Mario is a nutritionist with a passion for nutrition and exercise physiology. I like to practice all kinds of sports, especially strength, middle distance and racquet sports. "I have been using HRV4TRAINING for more than a year and I love reading about its use, including in different pathologies. In the vast majority of occasions the data reflects my subjective feeling, and depending on the result, I adjust the intensity of the exercise and my diet" |
Sharon is a recreational triathlete (mostly middle distance) and runner. She also teaches yoga and is a L3 Personal Trainer. "As a busy working Mum with an intensive training schedule, it’s not always easy to identify when it’s best to rest or dial back training or when to proceed as planned. Using HRV4Training has enabled me be really clear on how to train and also identify how lifestyle factors can affect my ability to train. Being able to see trends in HRV and resting heart rate is really helpful in planning and scheduling my training." |
Jonathan is an upper cervical chiropractor and functional neurologist with special interest in traumatic brain injury and autonomic nervous system disorders.
"My interests in heart rate variability are related to the impact of therapies targeting vagus nerve function including exercise, breathwork, and vagus nerve stimulation. I also am a big proponent of fitness and using HRV for monitoring the effects of both endurance and strength training. I have used HRV4Training almost daily for several years to observe the effects of my training as well as the impact of life stressors on my overall health and well being. I’ve learned that disrupted sleep from having new born kids and any alcohol consumption will tank my HRV the next day. I’ve also learned to adding aerobic training to my strength training will max out my HRV trends." |
Matt is an independent ATC whose worked with countless professional, olympic, and recreational athletes as well as executives and entrepreneurs.
"I combine my background in sports medicine with sport performance to achieve individualized high performance for my clients goals. As a coach, my training is just as important to me as my clients. I'm currently pursuing excellence in golf, utilizing long distance cycling as a conditioning tool along with resistance training, of course. My daily HRV readings from HRV4Training are crucial in helping me decide whether my body is adapting, and recovering, the way I expect it to and has become a backbone of my information from which I make decisions." |
Sarah is a 63 year old woman who has always been active but didn’t get to really push herself until she started competing in cycling time trials aged 55.
"HRV4Training has helped me understand how my body reacts, how I’m affected by travel, work, nutrition and life; and how I take longer to recover than I did 3 years ago. The menopause affects us all differently and understanding how it affects me then making the most of training to get good results. When I’m not performing as well as I should my HRV makes me think why. Usually it’s a something stressful that I haven’t recognised as stressful or my nutrition hasn’t been great. It’s made me listen to my body more and as a result I more than achieved my season’s goal this season. My goal was to podium at the UCI Grand Fondo World Championships Women’s 60-64 Individual Time Trial. I went better and won! If my reading says to limit intensity I log into my training plan and move my sessions around. I’ve learned that I may feel fine in myself but only find I’m fatigued once the effort goes above Zone 3. HRV4Training also helped me understand how driving more than 2 hours affects my performance the following day so when travelling to an important race I leave 2 days before." |
Xavi is a Sport Scientist who has worked in Strength & Conditioning in basketball for over a decade before starting his own project with the aim of training cyclists and sharing knowledge in cycling. He was also the manager of external load management at Football Club Barcelona for several years. Always interested ins learning how technology can help to train smarter. "I use HRV4Training with my athletes and myself. I'm trying to learn how much I can use long term trends to adjust training in amateur athletes." |
Steven is a running/ fitness and nutrition coach, and has been coaching for over 3 years now
"I am passionate about fitness and the physiology of fitness and health and sharing that with other people! Outside of training the coaching I have two young daughters who are less run crazed as I am but they are better swimmers and climbers! Personally I have used HRV4Training for over 14 months now and find it so useful I recommend it to all of my clients I use a standard protocol every morning to gauge my “state” I find the subjective questionnaire just as valuable as the measurement itself! The app has helped me learned what stressors I can tolerate and which I need to pay closer attention to, it predicted Covid once and a cold once, both 3 days before I became heavily symptomatic. I think HRV4Training is a fascinating tool that more people should use!" |
Ainhoa is a 38 year old mathematician lecturing at an Engineering Faculty. She is a former rower and currently a wanna be track cyclist training for the individual pursuit. She has been involved in rowing as an athlete but also as a coach and biomechanist for many years until the end of 2019. It was after the pandemic that she came to the cycling world and fell in love with track cycling.
"I have been using HRV4Training as it was suggested by my then coach. We started using it to see how my body was adapting to training. Coincidentally, when I started using it, I suffered from covid and later from long covid for many months and it has helped us understand when my body was and wasn’t ready to resume training. Back to a healthy situation now, HRV4Training continues to be a great source to understand the adaptations my body us having and identify some stressors too." |
Gregorio has been an athlete for 16 years and studied to become a sports coach. I constantly use my experiences as an athlete combined with science to provide a better service to the athletes I coach
"I use HRV4Training to better understand how my body recovers and adapts after training sessions I think that monitoring heart rate variability to check recovery between one training session and another and having additional data on how to approach subsequent sessions is essential to optimize training and know how to best manage load. Furthermore, through HRV I can better understand how athletes respond to training protocols" |
Rebecca is a lifetime rower now 58 who still competes at New Zealand and international regattas. She is the host of the RowingChat podcast and an advocate for masters rowing.

Dave is an Anglican priest and Australia’s oldest professional boxer.
"I have been competing and training people for more than 30 years. I am an author, Ted X speaker and have been nominated for Australian of the Year three times. I use HRV4Training every morning on waking. For the years I have been using it, I have never over trained and so swear by it. More recently, I have been using it to monitor the effectiveness of my breathing techniques, which I find have improved my HRV scores significantly." |
