The bike has become my place of peace, helping me connect with people, grow, and achieve things I never thought possible.
I use HRV4Training as a key part of my daily routine to monitor how my body is responding to my training load and recovery needs. Given the significant increase in my training volume over the last 18 months-especially with endurance cycling and ultra events-HRV4Training has helped me understand when my body is ready to push and when I need to prioritise rest. The insights HRV4Training provides have allowed me to train smarter, not harder. As cycling is such an important part of my life, avoiding burnout, illness and having to be off the bike is crucial. That is where HRV4Training is key" |

Being peri-menopausal, I have also found HRV4Training a really useful tool to help me quickly work out in the morning if I am ready to train or not after a bad night's sleep. I have learnt to listen to my HRV4Training readings because often HRV is low before resting HR is high!" |

I utilize Athletica AI as my training platform and I use HRV4Training to help me monitor how the training is going. I qualified for Kona in 2023 and had my best triathlon result ever, coming 27th out of 333 participants in my age group. I also trained for a marathon this year and qualified for the Boston Marathon in 2025 and am looking forward to training for this big event and monitoring the training using HRV4Training. I check my HRV first thing every morning. If I see a lower value than normal, I subjectively think of how I am feeling and make a decision about my days training. If I see a yellow/red colour, I don't necessarily cancel or adjust training, but will monitor the coming days. I find it intersting when I am stressed or have too much to drink how it impacts my values significantly. I'm always amazed!" |
"I am passionate about endurance sports, especially those related to the mountains such as trail running, MTB and mountain skiing. I usually compete in trail running races. I have recently graduated in sports science, and have found HRV4Training very helpful to learn more about training and of course myself. I use HRV4Training every morning to monitor my HRV. "I am a passionate cyclist and trail runner with years of experience competing at a high level. I use HRV4Training as a daily guide to better understand my body’s readiness and to fine-tune my training approach. This approach has become crucial in managing my performance as an endurance athlete, especially now that I’m balancing training intensity with the need for sustainable recovery. Through HRV4Training, I’ve gained insights into how my body responds to different types of training and lifestyle factors, such as sleep, nutrition, and overall stress." |
"I'm a 22-year-old student-athlete from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I'm a road and track cyclist with the wonderful "Red Truck Racing P/B Mosaic Homes", a Canadian trade team based out of Vancouver. I'm in the final year of my Bachelor of Science in Biology and Earth Science at the University of Alberta."
My coach suggested that I use HRV4Training as an additional tool to monitor my fatigue. I've had some issues in the past with both burnout and fatigue, and I've found that monitoring my HRV helps me recognize any issues before they have a negative impact on my health or training. I take my measurement every morning as soon as I wake up. If my score is really low, I take that as a hint that I might be getting sick or too fatigued, and I communicate that with my coach to possibly adjust my training for the day. Using HRV4Training has helped me learn how to listen to my body; even when the clues are subtle, they're usually there. Using my HRV score along with how I'm feeling-both physically and mentally-I've been able to recover more efficiently, take breaks when I need them, and overall improve my training." |

Alongside my athletic pursuits, which include competing at the 2024 European Athletics Off-Road Championships, I graduated with honors in International Business Economics, focusing on climate change and sustainability, and I also work in this field.
Balancing a career in sustainability with competitive mountain running requires careful management of both physical and mental stress. While metrics from TrainingPeaks for example help track my physical workload, HRV4Training provides a vital understanding of how overall stress-whether from work or training-impacts my body. This insight helps me make informed decisions, allowing me to adapt my training during demanding periods and maintain a sustainable balance between my professional and athletic ambitions." |

I’ve also noticed a correlation between my emotional resilience and my HRV daily scores." |
"I am a 57-year-old female with over 20 years of running experience, including Ironman triathlons, marathons and ultramarathons. Recently, I’ve also started coaching ultra running.
I’ve already learned several valuable insights from using HRV4Training. I now understand that HRV should be measured while sitting, and that stress can cause a dip in HRV. When HRV decreases, it’s a signal to ease up in training. I’ve also learned that HRV is more sensitive than resting heart rate and that a higher HRV isn’t always better—what’s important is staying within a healthy range. By consistently measuring HRV, we can better assess how our bodies are adapting to training stress, which helps in making informed adjustments to improve performance and recovery." |
"Passionate about sports and endurance training, I transitioned from competitive volleyball in Italy to running, completing several marathons and half marathons. I use HRV4Training daily to track my recovery and optimize my training, helping me become a better athlete". |
"I am Corina, and I work as a trainee doctor in anaesthesia and in clinical research and besides, I am an active triathlete. I was lucky enough to have some major achievements including podium finishes at all my Ironman 70.3 races, a 3rd AG place and 5th overall at the Swiss middle distance championships in Locarno, 2nd overall finish in IM 70.3 Italy. I finished 12th my AG and/or 32nd overall at this years IM 70.3 World Championships in Taupo.
I measure my HRV using HRV4Training every morning ever since I've been coached. Coming from a medical background, I was very sceptical at first and had an on-off-relationship with the app. I have quite a good body feeling and couldn't figure out a trend in my daily HRV-readings. Then I realised the many factors that come into play when it comes to recovery - I started using individualised Tags such as "night shift", "menstrual cycle" or "nutrition" since as a doctor, I sometimes don't get breaks throughout my shifts or work late at night which affects my recovery so much. Now, my coach and I can finally put a number on the bodily feelings that I have and that helps me so much to accept, that I do need more rest sometimes or when I'm about to get sick, when I should pay more attention to the way I am feeling during a key interval session or adapt accordingly to stay healthy." |
"I'm a 30-year-old amateur cyclist, racing mountain bikes mostly. Balancing training with my full-time job, I use HRV4Training to guide recovery and performance, learning when to take it easy but especially when to push hard.
The app has taught me how factors like sleep and even little things like opening or closing a bedroom window throughout the night, can greatly influence recovery, with noticeable improvements in my HRV and resting heart rate over the season. Coming from a family with a history of heart conditions, I prioritize tracking my cardiovascular health, especially during high training stress or lifestyle changes." |

"I am a personal trainer with 13 years of experience and a sports dietitian in South Korea. I operate two training centers where I work with athletes from various sports disciplines. In addition to training others, I also engage in my own athletic pursuits, including marathon running, triathlons, and weightlifting. My passion for sports and fitness drives me to continuously improve myself and help my clients achieve their goals.
As I entered my 30s, I began to feel that my recovery was becoming more challenging after participating in marathons, triathlons, and weightlifting. As a sports dietitian, I made efforts to focus more on the nutritional aspects of my training, but I often felt that something was still lacking. While pursuing my graduate degree in sports science, I learned that heart rate variability (HRV) plays a crucial role in managing fatigue, in addition to nutrition. I explored various devices like the Oura Ring and Garmin, but found that their accuracy was often lacking. In my search for a cost-effective and useful tool, I discovered HRV4Training, which has provided me with valuable insights into my recovery and performance." |

I’ve had two knee surgeries this year and have used it to help indicate the level of my sleep recovery and the effects of nutrition, stress, etc on things like my resting heart rate and morning HRV." |

"Using HRV4Training I've learned about the importance of life stress and poor sleep on symptoms of overtraining. I’ve been using HRV biofeedback as well since my podcast episode with Marco Altini" |
"I am an active masters bicycle racer in the US, Cat 2 road, consistently ranked in the top 1% nationally for my age and discipline - criteriums. I'm also a Level 2 USA Cycling coach.
I'm fascinated by advancing exercise science and HRV's impact on how to monitor recovery. I've been using HRV4Training for a number of years and find it invaluable for monitoring my stress/recovery. I use HRV4Training to monitor stress/recovery - most notably - I've learned the scenarios where my recovery and resulting form on the bike are realized, examples of how to manage daily life stress in a positive way and to get the most out of my training while maintaining good overall physical and mental health." |
"I am a former professional backcountry athlete specializing in multisport expeditions and bikepacking races, retiring in early 2024 after one too many concussions. As a longtime physical therapist and adventure coach, my personal journey with persistent post-concussion symptoms led me to pursue specialized training in concussion rehabilitation and mentorship. Now, I am dedicated to supporting others who are navigating the same challenges I once faced.
Following my most recent concussion I've been on a journey to return to my beloved adventure pursuits, which led me to discover HRV4Training and become a devoted reader of the HRV4Training Substack, learning everything I can and often using the information as inspiration to dive even further down research rabbit holes. Personally, I’ve been using HRV4Training primarily to monitor my autonomic nervous system’s response to exercise intensity, duration, and timing as I manage my concussion rehabilitation. Tracking how my ANS recovers after exercise and overnight sleep has been crucial in determining when to adjust the variables of my cardiovascular exercise, as well as other rehabilitative activities targeting my postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). Without obvious symptoms like dizziness or headaches that are no longer present, I need to rely on ANS indicators such as HR and HRV to gauge my brain’s response to exercise and positioning. Thanks in large part to HRV4Training, as of October 2024 I can now enjoy my outdoor activities for nearly four hours—and counting—without compromising my sleep that night or my physical and cognitive performance the next day. In addition, my POTS has completely cleared up." |
"My name is Henk Vos, 57 year software engineer and a running coach at Eindhoven Atletiek in the Netherlands. Besides running and coaching I love technology and metrics and believe science can help us to better understand our response to training and therefore optimize and further develop training strategies. I use HRV4Training daily since 2017 to optimise the balancing act between training load and recovery. I have learnt that it is a valuable additional indicator in the recovery process and planning of easy and hard sessions." |
